Phillip Lehans
During the summer of 202 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Phillip Lehans created a series of images fitting for the uncertain times. With social distancing forced solitude and society effectively shutdown, the circumstances opened an opportunity to work in a way the speed of modern life generally doesn’t allow. Using a wooden camera with a manual shutter, his prolonged exposures created an ethereal atmosphere, awash in pastels and reminiscent of watercolor paintings. This completely analog and archaic photographic process is meditative, encouraging an immersion with nature, providing a dreamlike visual representation of how one would describe the scene from memory.
